Hiring a wedding videographer is possibly one of the most hotly debated topics between couples when it comes to planning their wedding. Here are six reasons why you absolutely should book a wedding videographer, and why you won’t regret it.
1. The Best Money You’ll Spend
Whenever I talk to couples, especially for my Real Wedding features, hiring a wedding videographer always comes up in conversation. Every couple says it’s either the best money they spent on their wedding, or not hiring one was their biggest regret. Ask yourself, what would you regret more, getting one, or not getting one? If you do your research, read reviews, word of mouth recommendations and choose a wedding videographer with a style that appeals to you, you definitely won’t regret it. And you’ll soon be one of those couples who say it’s the best thing they invested in for their wedding. Because that’s what it is, an investment; but one that is totally worth it!

Top Tip: Ask your wedding photographer what wedding videographers they like to work with! They will often recommend someone with a similar style and who they work well together with.
2. Memories of Loved Ones Who Have Passed Away
If you lose a close family member or friend, especially one who was an integral or important part of your wedding day, your wedding video could be one of the last memories you have of them. People often say if they could only hear their voice one more time, see them one more time, re-live precious memories they shared together. Your wedding video will quickly become priceless for a whole new reason and you will appreciate it so much more. A wonderful memory of loved ones who have passed away, whether that’s shortly after your wedding, or in years to come. You will never get this time again, even if you do a vow renewal, it’s not the same. So treasure and cherish the memories you make on your wedding day.

3. Because it’s ALL About the Editing
Smart phones just won’t do. Not because of the equipment, that’s only half of it. It’s the shooting style, skill and editing that makes professional wedding videos really special. As any videographer or YouTuber will tell you, it’s all about the editing. Yes, you may get video clips from friends and family who’ve recorded snippets on their phone. But it’s often the same clip and doesn’t tell the full story of your entire wedding day. You’re also relying on chance, that your family and friends will record parts of your wedding. You want them to enjoy the day too. You wouldn’t skip on hiring a photographer for the day because friends and family will be taking pictures, so don’t do it with your videographer.

4. Keep the Memories Alive
FACT: your wedding day will go by so fast, you will often forget parts of it. There are moments when it feels like time stands still, but as any married couple will tell you, the day goes by in the blink of an eye. A wedding video is the perfect way to re-live all those moments and keep those precious memories alive. When you receive your wedding video from your chosen wedding videographer, it’s so lovely to look back on your day with close family and friends and re-live the moments all over again. It’s often very emotional too, so have tissues at the ready.

5. They Capture EVERYTHING!
I’ve heard couples say they feel like they missed almost half the day and celebrations with the various {necessary} newly-wed duties. The parts you missed as a couple when you hadn’t yet arrived at the church. Or you were busy mixing with your guests, or getting photographs taken etc. By hiring a wedding videographer, you not only get to see all the parts you missed. But your other half, family and friends, get to see the parts they missed too. Like in the morning when you were getting ready, or when you were having your couple and family portraits taken. Depending on the package you go for, there are multiple cameras and/or shooters so they capture everything, they don’t miss a thing! They capture things you never would have seen if you had not hired a wedding videographer.

6. For Those Who Couldn’t Attend
And finally, your wedding video is something to show your children, and in years to come, your grandchildren. Or share it with the world and watch it go viral on social media or You’ve Been Framed! It’s also a great way to share your day with any family and friends who couldn’t make it to your wedding, for various reasons. They may have been too ill to come, just given birth, or too far away to travel etc. You will often get a shorter version of the video sent to you which you can share on social media or email to friends and family. There’s not many moments more awkward in life than asking someone if they want to watch your {full length} wedding video and seeing the look on their face. They don’t want to be rude, but you can tell they’re really not that interested or invested in your day to watch the whole thing. These short videos eliminate that dilemma, ideal for work colleagues or distant family who you may not have invited to your wedding, but still want to share some of your moments with them.

Wedding Videographers I Love
I thought I’d share some of my personal favourite wedding videographers who I’m happy to recommend. Although they are all based in Ireland, they each have destination packages that cover around the world.
Story of Eve
First up is Michael from Story of Eve. His wedding videos are very cinematic, romantic and beautifully crafted. They bring you on a story-telling journey that captures the essence and energy of the day. His background in graphic design and illustration sets him apart from his peers. You can check out more of his work here.

Best Day Productions
Rodolphe from Best Day Productions has an artistic old-school, retro style to his work. It reminds me of the wedding scenes and shooting style of The Godfather movie and the kind of family wedding videos I remember watching as a child. {Possibly because I’m from two big Irish and Italian families}. Rodolphe’s cinematography is like old home-movies, very nostalgic; but very skillfully and artistically done. You can check out more of his work here.
Little Bear Films
Kevin from Little Bear Films is another one of my favourites and has a very clean and crisp documentary style, with lots of detail shots. His wedding videos feature classic, elegant story-telling that focuses on the natural and authentic, never forced or staged. You can check out more of his work here.

Cathal Farrelly Cinematography
Last and by no means least, one of my Featured Suppliers, Cathal Farrelly. Cathal has a sophisticated, elegant and distinctive style. His wedding videos are much more than cinematic, they feel like you’re watching a Hollywood blockbuster! His shooting style doesn’t just capture the events of the day, but also the intimacy of the couple too. You can check out more of his work here.

Wedding photographers and videographers are a huge part of your wedding, they’re often a huge part of your budget too. So you might be interested in reading this post on how to reign in the budget.

My cousin is getting married in about three weeks and we haven’t figured out how to make the day extra special yet. We’ve thought about videoing it ourselves, so your article was especially helpful when you explained that there is skill involved that no amount of technology or smartphones will do. I’m going to have to look into hiring a wedding videographer.

My cousin is planning to get married at the end of the year and she is thinking about having a videographer. It was explained here that hiring a videographer is something that she will not regret because it will help keep all of the memories alive to not forget the parts of the important day. Furthermore, it’s recommended to go to trusted businesses when in need of quality wedding videography.

My fiance and I are getting married this summer and we are trying to decide if we should hire a videographer, so I appreciate the advice you give in this article. I like that you say a video is a great way to help those who couldn’t attend the ceremony still feel part of the wedding. My grandmother is too sick to attend, and it would be great for her to still feel involved by watching our wedding.

My fiance and I are planning a wedding right now and we have been talking about getting a wedding videographer. I really like the idea of having a video of your wedding for when someone close to you passes away so that you have a memory with them to look back on. This makes me want to look at wedding videographer packages more.
