I have been following, and hugely admiring, this leading lady in Irish wedding photography for ages now. A few weeks ago I sat down with Christina Brosnan from Brosnan Photographic to talk all things fine art wedding photography.
From America with love
Christina is originally from Chicago and moved to Ireland many years ago for love. How sweet is that?! Her style is reflective of the American light and bright style of fine art wedding photography. An award-winning, globe-trotting wedding photographer, Christina is one of the very best and top of my wedding supplier hit list for my one-day wedding. Unsurprisingly, her work has been published in wedding magazines and blogs all around the world. After meeting Christina, most of all she is humble and passionate about what she does. Which is why, for the most part, I’m going to let the pictures speak for themselves. Throughout this post is a recent real wedding of Niamh & James who got married in the four star, luxury boutique country house hotel, Marlfield House in Gorey, Co. Wexford.
Shooting & Editing Style
I’ve come to learn that these two styles can be very different. Christina’s shooting style is very relaxed and natural. No posing, just be yourself and enjoy your day. She’s simply there to capture that, not direct it – which is very important. Her editing style is soft and light, which suits both classic and traditional weddings who want that timeless feel, as well as contemporary, boho and indie weddings too. Christina focuses on the couple rather than the details and is often booked by couples who want a timeless photographic style.
E-books & Emails
If you haven’t checked out the Brosnan Photographic website yet, you really should. It’s got lots of images from the weddings Christina shoots, as well as advice for couples. She also has an e-book called Ever Yours which each of her couples receive for free! What I absolutely love {and wish I’d thought of myself tbh} is the email reminders Christina sends to her couples of the various things they need to do in the run up to their wedding – specific to their wedding date. These include little things that you don’t always think of, like getting your engagement ring cleaned.
Christina’s Top Tips
Christina says the best photos are the ones where the couple are completely unaware and not trying to pose for shots. But I know that if it were me, I’d want to know all the little tricks of the trade. I asked her to share a few things to remember on your wedding day.
- Wear your hair up for the ceremony, it’s hard to see your face with your hair down
- If you know what your good angle, or good side is, let your photographer know
- Tell your photographer what you do and don’t like
- Wear flat shoes if that’s what makes you feel most comfortable
- Be natural and be yourself
Favourites
Christina’s favourite weddings to shoot are the ones that are all about the couple and the weddings that focus on them. Hotels and castles can often be tricky in terms of finding good lighting and large spaces. Venues and boutique country houses like Tankardstown House and Kilruddery House are a photographer’s dream! Christina’s favourite times of the wedding day to shoot are the quieter moments, especially in the morning when the bride is getting ready, and couple portraits. I’m a sucker for those morning shots too, when you can almost sense the anticipation through the photographs. And then the relief and joy on the couples’ faces after the ceremony in their portrait shots.
Booking Details
As with almost all wedding suppliers, you need to book about a year in advance to get the date you want. When booking, one third or one quarter deposit is required, with the remaining balance due one week before the wedding. About two weeks before your wedding, Christina will get in touch to finalise details, timing etc. About eight – twelve weeks after your wedding, the fully edited images are available to see in an online gallery.
Packages & Prices
There are four packages available, based on how many hours you book. The packages start at €2,500 and range upwards to €3,500. The most popular packages are the seven hour one, which takes you through to dinner. And the eleven hour one which takes you through to the first dance. A wedding album is included in the top package, but is an added extra in all the others. It has 40 pages, portrait style and approximately 65 images, chosen by you and the layout designed by Christina.
All images were kindly supplied by Brosnan Photographic. You can contact Christina directly here for date availability and more information on her wedding packages. I am so glad to showcase her incredible talent, and feature her as one of my trusted, featured suppliers!
