Hey there blossoms! Another week, another foundation review, and this one is just in time for an end of the month, pay-day splurge! This was supposed to be a #foundationfriday thing that I was going to do, but mummy duties took priority yesterday so here we are, the kids are watching White Chicks and I’m writing this review whilst listening to them howling with laughter in the sitting room. If you read my post last week about the NARS foundation, you will already know about the top 8 foundations featured in U Magazine, if not, you can read it here. This week I’ve been wearing Dior Nude Air Ultra-Fluid Foundation (another mouthful) which didn’t feature on the list either, although I can’t think why, I loved it! Essentially it’s like a tinted serum which gives the most amazing, natural-looking skin finish.
I’m going to keep this review short and sweet, this foundation comes in 8 shades and is available for €51.50 at high-end makeup counters. My shade was 030 Medium Beige. It’s described as a Nude Healthy Glow Ultra-Fluid Serum Foundation with SPF 25. I applied this fluid foundation with my damp beauty blender – my favourite way to apply foundation to give a truly flawless finish with no streaks, Dior also have their own version. Heads Up: this stuff is ridiculously runny, so be careful when applying, that you don’t splash any of the foundation around, I got a tiny spot of it on my brand new cream jumper and it hasn’t come out in the wash yet. The foundation went on really easily and was super lightweight, like the Make Up Forever HD foundation, it felt like my skin, only better. Infused with Oxygen Activ™ technology, an innovative blend of a hyper-oxygenated oil, cranberry oil, vitamin, and minerals, this serum leaves an undetectable, sheer layer of makeup on the skin, while its soft-focus, blurring agents and glazed pigments (seriously, where do they come up with these words?!) instantly produce an even-looking, natural skin-finish complexion. And I’m not even joking about the instant results, there’s no need for endless blending out, concealers and highlighters etc, this stuff really works, straight away, with minimum fuss and effort.
Now it also says it gives a radiant glow and sheer finish. I didn’t find this to be the case, again, I think a radiant primer before applying this foundation would be needed to achieve that radiant glow, such as the ones I mentioned in my last NARS foundation post, or even mix this Dior Nude Air foundation with the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone for pale Irish skin tones or Opal for more medium skin tones, alternatively you can use the Kevin Aucoin Celestial Skin Liquid Lighting Highlighter, but just the tiniest drop otherwise you’ll end up looking like a glow worm with lashes and lipstick. Kevin Aucoin is the ultimate luxury in highlighting products, up there with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders which can be bought at Space NK on Grafton Street and in Harvey Nichols in Dundrum.
The Diorskin Nude Air foundation lasted all day and didn’t feel like I was wearing anything on my face at all, but gave me a great, even, although mattified, complexion and my Soleil Tan de Chanel was an absolute dream to blend over it, so far this is the best foundation combination with my Chanel cream bronzer and I had a beautiful, soft, velvety finish to my face. Would I buy this product again? Absolutely! I would give it a solid 8.5 out of 10 with the only downsides being the mattifying effect it had on my normal/combination skin and the lack of radiance. If you have naturally oily skin, this foundation would be great for you, but if you already have dry skin, I would definitely team it up with a good primer and a thorough spritzing of MAC’s Fix+ or Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water before applying. This foundation is also a great choice for the summer months or any kind of warm, hot and clammy weather because it’s not going to slide off your face.
You can buy Beauty Blenders and the liquid highlighters mentioned above online at Cult Beauty, and use the code FREESHIP15 for free shipping to the Republic of Ireland with free worldwide shipping on all orders over £50.
