Since I’ve been blogging for just over a year, I’ve noticed how much my style has changed. Lots of brides often make the mistake of rushing their wedding plans and not taking the time to really explore and discover what their bridal style is, regretting the choices they make later down the line when they get more immersed in wedding plans and the sheer volume and variety of wedding gowns there is out there. The struggle is how to choose a dress that is both timeless and on-trend. So in this post I’m going to guide you along finding your bridal style.
After the amount of time, money and emotional investment that you put into your wedding, you don’t want to ever have to excuse your style choices in years to come. {I’m looking at you 80’s brides!} You don’t have to be traditional to achieve a timeless, elegant look on your wedding day. My best piece of advice is to stick to what suits and compliments your body. When it comes to the cut and silhouette of your wedding dress, choose a shape that flatters your body shape, accentuating the best parts of your body and helping or hiding the worst. When it comes to the colour of your gown, go for the colours, shades and tones that suit the colour of your skin. Blush is going to look better on some skin tones than others, champagne and nude can wash some people out. White can look amazing on sun-kissed, golden skin but wash other pale tones out. So instead of going for the latest fashion-forward trend, go for what looks best on you.
The Traditional Bride
Key elements of a traditional wedding dress are fabric, colour and silhouette. If you want to get real traditional, then your dress should be white – not ivory – white white! Lace or satin are the traditional fabric choices, paired with conservative necklines, often a veil and sometimes sleeves too. Ronald Joyce is a hugely popular wedding designer, perfect for brides who are looking for something that is traditional yet suits and compliments a wide range of body shapes. These dresses will cinch you in in all the right places and show off your very best assets! These dresses are from the AW 2016 collection.
The Timeless Bride
Key elements of a timeless gown are sleek, elegant fabric choices such as satin, taffeta, lace and tulle. The cut may not be what is necessarily on-trend at the time, but perfectly compliments the brides body shape and height. Ivory and white are most popular. Check out Augusta Jones for some beautiful bridal dresses that exude elegance and ensure your wedding album won’t look dated in a few years to come. {Karen Willis Holmes is another great designer to check out.}
The On-Trend Bride
One key element for on-trend bridal collections this year is colour; move over ivory, it’s all about blush and shades of champagne. Other elements keeping dresses on-trend include alternative necklines, plunging v’s, exposed or illusion backs, bold lace patterns and two piece gowns. Veils are less prominent, making way for floral crowns and halo veils. The Yolan Cris 2016 collection is an excellent example of a chic, sophisticated, fashion-forward bride.
Pulling it all together
Overwhelmed, even more confused? Don’t worry, the best way to achieve an on-trend, yet timeless look is to mix each of these key elements in a tasteful, stylish way without over-doing it. I have pulled it all together and found a collection which {I feel} perfectly captures all of these things to bring you a selection of dresses that are on-trend with the colours and silhouette, but with strong traditional vibes resulting in a stunning and timeless look. May I introduce you to the 2017 Spring/Summer collection from Legends by Romona Keveza! This soft, romantic palette combines the classic ivory with blush and champagne throughout timeless silhouettes that suit a range of body shapes. Delicate lace is a strong feature, accompanied by flattering details like beaded belts, scalloped cap sleeves and dramatic deep v-necklines. Prices start at $4,000, prepare to swoon!
