So yesterday morning I attended the first Galaxy Style Blogger Workshop with Brendan Courtney and special guest, James Kavanagh; I’m going to blame the buzz and excitement of the morning because next thing I know, I was on a bit of a frenzied, happy hour haul! The only miracle being that I didn’t buy anything in Brown Thomas, which is akin to a trip to Ikea for me; I often walk in for one thing, and walk out with about six!
I was on a mission to look camera-ready-chic to record a quick audition to be in with a chance of covering Dublin Fashion Week this September for Frock Advisor and Galaxy. {If you search #galaxystyle on social media, you should find a couple of clips of me, out takes ‘n all!} So I went to the Charlotte Tilbury stand and I have to say a thank you to the lovely Ellen for squeezing me in to get a quick touch up, and to Naomi who did a fab job on my eyes. Naomi was so professional, creating a look for me that would not only look great but would work well on camera – the girl knows her stuff.
Then I went to Space NK; I can’t visit Brown Thomas without perusing around NK too. I went in here on a different mission though, Ruth Crilly from A Model Recommends recently put up a selfie on Instagram and I have never seen her skin look so amazing, so naturally I asked her what foundation she was wearing. Becca Aqua Luminous foundation was her answer, so I went into Space NK to try it out and get colour matched. I was a little disappointed with the shade range to be honest, it didn’t have anything that suited my skin tone right now, but in a few weeks when I’m back from my holipops, there’s a shade waiting for me! Applied with a flat foundation brush, it was very luminous and dewy, straying over to the oily/shiny look which isn’t one I’m a fan of, so I’ve taken away a sample to apply at home with my damp Beauty Blender to get a better idea of how this foundation will look on my skin.
Thank you to the wonderful makeup artist {who, co-incidentally, specialises in bridal makeup} Tara, who suggested Cover Expert By Terry foundation as an alternative. Tara was actually wearing the foundation and her skin looked flawless and glowing – perfect, just what I’m looking for! The foundation felt amazing when I swatched it on my hand and looked breath-taking on my skin. I kid you not, this foundation literally makes you stop in your tracks when you catch yourself in the mirror! I did a double take, thinking it was the glowing goddess J-Lo herself staring back at me! The foundation is packed full of skincare goodness and feels so luxurious on the skin, not sure about the smell just yet, but thankfully either it fades after a few hours, or my nose becomes immune to it. The consitency and texture is very similar to the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation, only this one feels more luxurious and creamy. It lasts all day, gives fab coverage while still looking natural and it has the most beautiful, bridal-esque glow. We had shade issues with this foundation too though, as this one suits my skin now, but I’m not sure about post-holiday tan… I’ll have to get back to you on that. It’s a little pricier than other foundations such as Charlotte Tilbury, Make Up For Ever and Giorgio Armani, but you get 5ml more.
I also picked up another Beauty Blender, I’ve lost count of how many of these I’ve bought at this stage. But I’ve yet to find a foundation brush that gives the same, flawless, natural-looking finish that this does. I have the Louise Young LY34 foundation brush set in my sights though. Then, I saw the most curious looking blush I have ever seen. T’was green, G R E E N ! What madness is this at all, but as soon as I touched it, it turned pink on my finger. Of course I had to have this, I mean, it’s a green blusher for crying out loud, that turns pink! It’s a cream blusher, I swatched other cream blushers in the shop, but still liked this one from Lipstick Queen the best, the colour and the natural, glowy sheen it gives my skin looks so fresh. I’ve never heard of Lipstick Queen or their Frogprince collection, I’ll be honest, I really want the green lipstick and lip gloss too!
Next, I had the best of intentions of {quickly} popping into TK MAXX to pick up another Louise Young brush I’d seen a couple of days before. That was all, I swear. Louise Young brush was no where to be found, and next thing I knew, I was walking out with 2 notebooks, some Indeed Labs goodies, a face mask brush and a particularly fabulous pair of Tahari sunglasses – I picked these up for €16.99, b a r g a i n !!!
Indeed Labs are probably best known for their Hydraluron, or as some Caroline Hirons fans like to call it, “Hironsluron” – because she loves and raves about this product so much! If you haven’t checked it out or tried it yet, definitely give it a go, and you can see posts I’ve written about it here. This time I picked up their concentrated multi-peptide serum, Snoxin {I wish it had a nicer name} and Nanoblur, which you put on after your foundation; it blurs lines, minimises the appearance of pores, and makes your skin instantly HD camera-ready. Although it says it’s not a makeup product, I don’t know why this isn’t a cult product for make up artists up and down the country, maybe there’s a reason, I’ll find out over the next few weeks and get back to you.
