I’m going to jump right into this post, as I’ve been sitting on this for the last few weeks and can’t wait to get it out there! I saw a post on Facebook recently, with a really sweet picture of a down syndrome teenage boy who’s life goal was to get accepted into college, and after working hard, he achieved his goal. The look on his face as the realisation of what he had finally achieved dawned on him, was the sweetest thing. But that got me thinking, what is my life goal and what do you do when it isn’t something that you can achieve through study and hard work? We all have those little milestones that we would like to achieve by a certain age, and my only one was to be married by the time I was 30, but I’m already 29 which doesn’t leave me much time! So, I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands, and make my own dreams happen. I’m all about that Spice Girls girl power, Destiny’s Child independent woman (the 90’s were the best!). Hell, if I can’t achieve this one life goal, then I’m gonna do the next best thing and have my very own wedding reception for my 30th birthday party!

Already I can hear the audible cries of people thinking that this time, fo’ sure, I’ve lost the plot altogether and have officially gone cray cray! Either craziness or desperation, but I assure you it’s neither. Now, I’m not going as far as a fake wedding ceremony to myself or anything like that, even I think that really would be going too far. But I am going to be wearing a white frock, with bridal hair and makeup, a bouquet, flower girl and page boy (my beautiful children, of course!), bridesmaids, a wedding cake, table centres….the whole shi-bang! I’ve even already booked the wedding band! I’m also going to see if I can get my hands on some life-size cardboard cut outs of some of the Irish rugby boys…you know, for the pictures, because I’m getting a photographer too!
But let’s get real, this is a glorified birthday party and not a wedding so the budget is MIN-I-MAL! So over the next year, I’m going to be doing budget-friendly DIY tutorials on all the things I’ll be using for my wedding reception birthday party. If you have any requests of something you’ve seen but don’t know how to achieve, or would like to be able to put something together that looks amazing but doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, then leave a comment here or tag me into a photo on Facebook or Instagram. You can also follow me on Pinterest for all the inspiration I’ll be gathering for the big day.
Right, I’ve got a wedding reception, sorry, “birthday party” to plan! And hey, if I do meet “the one” in the mean time, at least I’ll have all that planning out the way! ….too much?? ha ha If nothing else, it will be like a dummy run, and lots of fun.
